Student Data Privacy

The Foxborough Public Schools collects and uses data to provide students and families with educational programming and opportunities. This data is also used to support educational operations such as School Safety, Food Services, and Transportation.  As a district, we follow student data privacy best practices and local, state, and federal student record-keeping and privacy laws, which help keep our students and their online experiences as safe as possible. Ensuring Data privacy is an ongoing process. Our district continues to maintain and refine our methods for evaluating the data privacy of the software and resources we use. These methods include reviewing software terms of services, privacy policies & data agreements, and asking permission for the use of non-district provided resources requiring the exchange of personal data.

  • Health & Medical Information
  • Financial Records – (Meal Benefits Program)

 Student Records:

  • Student ID Numbers
  • Attendance
  • Discipline
  • Schedules
  • Grades
  • IEP/504 Plans
  • Transportation Records
Student Technology Records:
  • Usernames & Passwords
  • Emails
  • Network usage
  • Internet history and software usage statistics
  • Device location (locate lost devices-- data not stored)

 Examples of how FPS uses data:

  • Provide academics, educational programming and personalize learning
  • Communicate with you and your child regarding educational programming or related items
  • Provide & improve enrichment, and other services and operations such as Transportation, School Nutrition & Lunch, and Athletics programs
  • Determine eligibility for local state and federal programing

Access to data:

Student data is shared with school administrators, teachers, and support staff employed or contracted by FPS, working directly with or having a vested interest in a student through an administrative, technical, diagnostic, academic, curricular, therapeutic, medical, or guidance role. We also share data with select third-party vendors/partners for the sole purpose of providing the district and students with resources to support curriculum, instruction, and operations. Other access to data granted when required by law.
