Summer Reading List

Grades 6 – 8

Please note that the Grade 8 reading list was altered on June 5, 2009. Be sure you're using the most current.

Summer is almost here and, hopefully, that means that there will be time to read books for enjoyment in the relaxed environment of summer.  Reading is a skill that requires practice, just like baseball or math facts.  Summer reading can help students of all abilities keep their skills sharp so they are ready when school begins again in September.

The classroom teachers have developed lists of grade-appropriate books that we hope will speak to a wide variety of literary tastes.  We encourage parents and their children to make selections from the attached list according to the child's interests and reading ability, however, feel free to make choices beyond the list for your child.

Students in the middle school are asked to read two books over the summer. These and any other books read can be recorded on the log sheet and returned in the first week of school to the Language Arts teacher.

A Journal Response sheet is an optional activity for students wishing to document their responses.  Students who complete Journal Responses will also receive a certificate acknowledging the additional effort.

The following bookstores have received copies of Foxborough Public School's reading lists and related information:

  • Barnes and Nobles, Walpole Mall, Walpole, MA
  • Annie's Book Stop, 362 South Main Street, Sharon, MA
  • Book Ends, 100 North Main Street, Mansfield, MA
  • Borders, 280 School Street, Mansfield, MA 02048
  • Borders, 1212 South Washington Street, North Attleboro, MA
  • Borders Express, Emerald Square Mall, North Attleboro, MA

Reading can be fun.  All too often when done under the time constraints of school-year assignments, reading loses some of the pleasurable aspects.  Summer is a time to recapture the joy of reading and engage in this rewarding and enriching activity. Have a great summer and keep on reading!
